Fly on the Spring Squil

Syrphid fly (Syrphidae) on a hyacinth Spring or Siberian Squil or Blue Star flower (Scilla siberica). Contrary to our house fly, this group of flies is quite useful to humans as they pollenate flowers and many are predaceous on aphids and other pests. As all flies they do not sting.
